Humza Yousaf MSP volunteered his time to the Greater Pollok Citizen’s Advice Bureau dealing with service users for a day.

On Tuesday 31st July, Yousaf assisted the public through the Greater Pollok CAB drop-in service, where he listened to the problems of individuals and utilised his expertise as Glasgow’s regional MSP to guide them through the best possible course of action.

Yousaf commented:

“Citizen Advice Bureaus are arguably more important now than they ever have been in their 73 year history. More and more people are unfortunately finding themselves in need of assistance on a range of matters; from mortgage arrears and debt problems to issues with benefits and even relationship advice. Having access to free, impartial advice is a basic right which every person should be entitled to.

“Politicians are often easily caught up in their own bubble be it in Holyrood or Westminster and if not careful often lose touch with the problems facing those they represent. It was a good eye opener for me to spend my time at CAB in Greater Pollok and see first-hand the vitally important role they play in the heart of our communities.”

The Chair of the Greater Pollok CAB, Bob Irving, remarked:

“We are really pleased that Humza Yousaf MSP has taken the time to come to Greater Pollok Citizens Advice Bureau, to find out for himself just how important the service is to the local community.  We hope it highlights the need for our service which is provided by dedicated staff and volunteers in spite of a constant battle to maintain funding levels which takes up so much valuable time”.
