It is an enormous pleasure to be an MSP for Glasgow and I’m also delighted to have been selected as the SNP’s candidate for Glasgow Pollok.
It’s a real privilege to also be a Minister in the Scottish Government, firstly appointed by Alex Salmond and most recently by our party leader Nicola Sturgeon. I could not ask for two better mentors!
However, aside from being an MSP for Glasgow and a Minister I am, first and foremost, a committed activist and community campaigner. From very early on, when I first joined the SNP to campaign for Nicola Sturgeon, I was taught the only way to win elections is hard graft. I was lucky enough to be given a central role in the independence campaign and more recently the General Election campaign, where we achieved a phenomenal result in Glasgow.

Although all of us will still be feeling gutted by the result of the independence referendum, I hope you believe, like me, that independence is more certain now than ever. We are no longer just a political party; we are a movement of over 110,000 strong.
It will take all of our members, new and old, to better the Holyrood result from 2011, however I believe we can do it. To do so we need to ensure we have the strongest and most experienced team possible to stand up to the austerity-driven UK Government.
I have been a voice for the SNP’s social justice agenda across a number of platforms. From town hall debates to being the youngest SNP MSP to appear on BBC Question time, I hope I have always done our movement proud.
Let’s get our strongest team back into Holyrood to stand up for the people of Scotland and make the case for a better, fairer and independent Scotland.
